I've done. Starting from issue #5, I'm the new writer on Markosia's
Starship Troopers ongoing series, and I've got a story in
the upcoming Layer Zero Volume Two anthology from Insomnia
Publications. I've had another Starship Troopers strip, Extinction
Protocol, running in Mongoose Publishing's Sign's & Portents
magazine since August 2006. Before that I was freelancing
as a business writer, and before that I was performing as
a magician! (He thought that last bit was irrelevant, but
I disagree. I mean, a magician? Alan freakin' Moore says he's
a magician! Cy Dethan, the new Alan Moore!!!! Cap O)
What have you done that I don't know about?
There's some stuff cooking that I can't talk about yet - but
I, um, can't talk about that yet. (Boo hiss! Where's the
fun in that? Cap O)
Tell me something you have not told anyone else.
The new artist on Starship Troopers is one of the most striking
I've ever seen. I think a lot of people are going to take
serious notice of him after this.
Chocolate or Chips?
For what purpose - eating? If it's eating, I'd say chocolate.
What word do you think is underused?
Yeast.
What book do you wish you had worked on?
Difficult question, in that most of the books I really admire
are as good as they are because of the people who work(ed)
on them. Certainly, there are characters I'd love to write,
but that's a much larger question.
What book do you think would have been better if you had
worked on it?
All my books would have been better if I'd actually worked
on them…
Are you underpaid or overrated?
I'm unpaid and unrated, so I pretty much break even.
JLA or Avengers?
Avengers. I like my heroes to sweat a little.
Thanos or Darkside?
I'm afraid I can't answer that question, on religious grounds.
Judge Dredd or Hellboy?
Dredd. Unless you're asking who'd win in a fistfight. No,
actually, that's still Dredd.
Are your choices influenced by your current employer?
I'm self-employed, so yes.
If you could be involved in telling a story featuring
any two characters, who would they be?
Muhammad Ali and Gamera.
If you were a sandwich, what would your filling be?
Illegal.
Can you get me a job?
Ethically, sure. Practically, not so much.
Save the world or rule the galaxy?
Who's got time to rule the galaxy? I'm not much of a paperwork
guy.
One thing that annoys you about comic fans? (Only one
please!!)
Being one.
CGC - blessing or curse?
I can honestly say that it has never impacted my life in any
meaningful way.
Who sent this to you and do you like them or merely tolerate
them?
Well, you did. You seem okay.
Who are you going to send this on to and do you think
they will reply?
I'll pass it on to Nic - my collaborator on Extinction Protocol
(and, coincidentally, the last two world wars). I'll also
send a copy to the mystery artist on the Markosia Troopers
book, once he's been formally announced. He's a nice guy,
so he might reply.
